Ibis Ripley V5 mountain frame - Perfect for trail riding

Do you love gnarly trail riding on a bike that sends-it as effortlessly as it plows through the roughest stuff? Then the Ibis Ripley V5 will send your trail heart soaring. It’s the latest iteration of their super popular trail bike that doubles down on all the most capable flowy trail features while ensuring it remains a super efficient bike on inclines. It shares a lot of the same updates that the Ripmo V3 enjoys, but amps up the burliness as well.

What has changed in Ibis Ripley V5?

Perhaps more noticeably, the Ripley V5 has gotten quite a lot slacker than the previous version. The 64.9° head tube angle sends it up towards enduro territory, but the 130mm of dw-link rear travel paired with a 140mm travel suspension fork helps it settle squarely in the trail category. It’s really an ideal mix between seriously capable and super fun. That’s an Ibis specialty, actually.

Since they are committed to making sure everyone can have the same level of stoke on their bikes, no matter how tall or small the rider may be in stature, have added size-specific details across all frame sizes. Normally, for the sake of simplicity, bike brands will standardize things like chainstay length, frame angles, and bottom bracket height across all frame sizes. That practice, though, often compromises the ride feel and handling for the outlier sizes. That’s what Ibis engineers want to avoid. So, they have introduced size specific seat tube angles, suspension kinematics, chainstay length, and bottom bracket height to ensure all riders enjoy the same balance, responsiveness and overall ride quality.

Ibis have also invested in adding a fifth frame size to their Ripley lineup. Extra Medium plugs that gap for riders around 5’8” and 6’ who were between Medium and Large. If you fall into that category of size, it’s all very nuanced as to whether Ibis recommends you slot into the new XM option. It will have a lot to do with your riding style and your type of trails. If you have any questions, one of our experts at Wrench Science will be happy to help.

And for a similar reason, they have added more adjustability with their suspension flip chip, so you can run 29-inch or 27.5-inch/29-inch mixed (MX) wheels on all sizes without compromising the geometry. When you order a complete bike, though, they ship all sizes with a complete 29-inch setup.

Another nice new touch, the Ripley V5 offers a new rattle-free, easy access frame storage system with Cotopaxi making two internal bags that fit in the down tube and can store tools, nibbles, or other small essentials. The Ibis Ripley V5 is a modern trail bike that incorporates a slacker head tube angle, steeper seat tube angle, and longer reach with more travel to make it the most fun, most capable mountain bike on the trail.
